We traveled to Lake Tahoe a few weeks ago and today I tell you why I recommend this getaway.

It offers a wide variety of activities and attractions for all ages. Children can enjoy snow, pools and ski slopes. Older people can disconnect from the stress of the city.

The reason for this 4 days getaway? my birthday.

South Lake Tahoe is located three and a half hours from San Francisco, and we stopped two times: the first to eat in Placerville, where we started to see cars covered with snow and the second (I will never forget the name of the village) in Strawberry.

In Strawberry we bought some snow equipment, we were not as prepared as we thought…

The owners of the store very friendly, and told us that they had been without electricity for several days. They charged us with the cell phone and we realized that despite being a so small village, people are prepared for the winter and know how to deal with it.

On leaving this small town, there was road control and if you did not wear winter wheels or chains you were forced to turn around.

To get to Lake Tahoe you went through Eldorado National Forest, and the landscape is exceptional, consisting of conifers, spruce, subalpine and chaparral.

We arrived about 2pm and decided to take a walk down to the lake, barely five minutes walk but with the snow and the stroller it can be turned into twenty.

The cold is quite bearable if you are well warm, despite the snowstorms that we had all weekend, we were able to walk and play in the snow without freezing.

As I said, it seems a great place to disconnect as a couple, with friends or family as it was our case.

In the village there is access to a huge ski resort. Here is the largest number of people and a shopping center with shops, restaurants… One of the days, due to the storm, most of the tracks were closed, so it was curious to see so many skiers looking for an alternative plan.

Surely in summer also the landscape is also worth seeing and the area offers other activities like boat riding, sunbathing, bathing, hiking trails … but that will be another time!
